The full programme of leading Nordic art fair CHART 2022 (25-28 August 2022 in Copenhagen), including a book fair and special curatorial projects, will be announced soon. This week, the organisation focuses on CHART Architecture.

— It’s a 72-hour architectural competition open to newly graduated architects, designers, and artists with connections to the Nordic region, Nanna Hjortenberg, director of CHART explains. We invite teams to submit proposals for temporary architectural pavilions to be installed in the courtyard at Charlottenborg in the heart of Copenhagen during CHART in August. The competition kicks off this Friday, 29 April, at 12 noon.

The theme for CHART Architecture 2022, Hjortenberg continues, is Bio Architecture.

— We’re encouraging participants to explore the potential of biological materials in creating explorative, sensuous, and sustainable architectural spaces. We are currently seeing a range of innovative and cross-sectorial approaches to how to reduce the climate imprint of the building industry on the planet. New solutions are needed and a myriad of concrete ideas are emerging across artistic practices — from architecture and design to art, food, literature, and more. For this event, we hope to bring some of these ideas to life and present pavilions which explore new relations between building and biology, both in terms of materials and how we experience architecture.

This year’s competition jury consists of internationally-acclaimed individuals, specialising in architecture, art, design and bio-materials. They will select the five finalist teams to realise and display their proposals at Charlottenborg. The jury is chaired by Bjarke Ingels; founder and partner at BIG. Members of the jury are Kjetil Trædal Thorsen; founder and partner at Snøhetta, Johanne Hestvold; an artist working with, among many other projects, sculptural installations in mycelium; curator Pleun van Dijk of Future Materials Bank, founder of The Circular Way Ditte Lysgaard Vind, and design gallerist Maria Foerlev of Etage Projects.
